The Food, Allergy, Safety, Treatment, Education, and Research (FASTER) Act, H.R. 1202 protects the more than 1.5 million Americans allergic to sesame by requiring sesame be labeled on packed foods. Sesame would become the ninth allergen for which the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requires plain-language labeling. In addition, the bill lays the critical groundwork for conducting the research necessary to find new treatments and, eventually, a cure for 32 million Americans living with potentially life-threatening food allergies.
On February 23, the House of Representatives re-introduced the FASTER Act (H.R. 1202) for 2021. In 2020, the bill made significant and noteworthy progress. In the last Congress, we had over 90 bi-partisan co-sponsors on the bill because of the strength of your support. This Congress we will need your support more than ever to get this bill passed.
Even if your Representative was a co-sponsor in 2020, please send an email to your Representative urging them to co-sponsor the FASTER Act. With Congress focusing on a variety of issues it is important to reach out to them early. Use the draft letter below that can be personalized to share your thoughts and story. If your Representative has already co-sponsored, you can take the opportunity to thank them.
With the House (H.R. 1202) reintroducing the FASTER Act for 2021, our goal is to get the bill passed this year. To accomplish this, we need as many members of Congress as possible to co-sponsor it.
Send an email to your Representative urging them to co-sponsor the FASTER Act (H.R. 1202).
